It is celebrated annually in each of the twenty districts of the country, with each festival held on different dates according to the lunar calendar. The word "Tshechu" literally means "tenth day" and is held on the tenth day of a particular month in the Bhutanese calendar. The festival is held in honor of Guru Rinpoche, also known as Padmasambhava, who is said to have brought Buddhism to Bhutan in the 8th century.
